There is no mention of profit or sales here. The reality is if you hit the right level in the 10 items listed here you have to operate a profitable business. In essence, profit is the outcome of having the right business model in place and operational.
You can do a simple exercise. Go through each of the 10 items and give your business a score between 1 and 10. Score it about how ideal your business is for each criteria. This will give you a good indication of how Ideal your business is currently for You and what areas need some attention and focus.
Another tool that we created after the manufacturing business failure over 20 years ago was a very simple tool called the rate a business format. This was defining a list of criteria and a business would get a score of 0 or 1 for each item. Did not realise it at the time but this was the start of looking at the ideal business concept.
So whenever we looked at other businesses we would run it through this rating system and be guided by the score. I have grouped the criteria that we rate a business into the 10 criteria for the ideal business model.
The beauty of this process is once again it is subjective. It is up to you to decide what makes the list and what’s not on it.
